Facebook has lasted longer than Alexander the Great's Empire

The greatest Macedonian o, a man so great, he literally made the word part of his name? Alexander the Great came to the throne in 336 BC and immediately set off on a campaign of conquest. He held control of Greece, sacked Persia, claimed Egypt, and seized territory as far away as modern India. Yet it was all for nothing. From its tentative first moments to its final, dying breath, Alexander’s empire lasted less than a decade. By the standards of the time, this was spectacularly poor. The Roman and Mauryan Empires all started around the same time and lasted centuries. The trouble was that Alexander made no contingency plan in case of his death. When he died from a fever in 323 BC, his generals had no interest in cooperating to secure their new borders. Instead, they divided the land among themselves, fell to war, and shattered the empire beyond repair. All told, the full empire lasted only from 325–319 BC, a mere six years. For comparison, we’ve had Facebook almost double that time.

#moless Kenyan Social Media Craze

We only recently got stung by the social media bug. Kenya only recently got social media crazy. Its has been building up over time with Facebook but now its like a flood of social media craze with all age groups participating and not just the youths.  With the advent of what’s app platform , Twitter and the ease of anonymity on Facebook. We have all been overwhelmed by social media. Kenyans post every single thought that passes through their minds. With little or no care on the repercussion of their online actions. It’s becoming a social media crazed society.

Cheaper internet and cheap internet enabled Chinese phones. Have all contributed to a wave in our country where personal thoughts and deeds are not personal anymore. They can be shared at the click of a submit button.

The last two weeks saw the viral spread of an audio sex tape . With a protagonist “Moless” having his way with a less tech savvy girl. The posts , sends , tweets and downloads for the file filled the internet. As expected our government,  which at times treats the internet as a foreign animal, was quiet . Only some rights organizations voicing concerns.

We as a country need to really reevaluate our values and social standards. Ok if this can’t be done I bet better policing and legislation to curb wayward internet users could enable our minds to converse on the internet the same way we converse, as normal humans and not like we are hackers trying to share secrets of their minds all over the internet over a bulletin board  . We would hate to have a viral share like the Charlie Charlie game , that went viral over social media and had American parents worried over its spread and popularity. I won’t share much on it but creepy stuff on the internet.

Death to drunk driving

Google the technological giant has been working on a driverless car that will save people from the scurge of drunk drivers.

The Google driverless cars have been in testing for over 2 years. Legistation was passed in some states in the US to allow testing the cars in their roads with a driver having to still behind the wheel just incase they need to take over control from the computer. Google says this is just a formality and the cars don’t require intervention . So we await for the day they are finaly in production and they roam free in every street in every city.

Cars have been automating continously . Now cars relly heavily on technology to control most of its systems. It has sensors for everything from automatic bracking to controling the firing order of spark plugs in the engine.

Automation on the highway is only logical. All cars should be an automated electric driven robot. They say it should be cheaper to have cars drive themselves . In terms of lives saved due to drunk drivers and human error i agree whole heartedly. Pioneers in developing electric cars Tesla motors have developed the model S a fully eletric car. That can speed charge to full in under an hour, which is truely inovative, have promised to have a fully autonomous production model in the next ten years . It seems like a long way off but testing is paramount to have a system that is not fully dependent of predefined maps and can react to a myrid of situations. Car to car communication is being developed and the internet of things offers great hope in this endevor. We will have inteligent cars that can be summoned by the click of an app. Recharge at any nearby charging station by themselves. Collect the kids from school the drop them at home . Collect us from work. Avail themselves for service when we don’t need the during the day. Make us some money via Uber for their own keep.

All the major car manufacturers from BMW , GM , Nissan, Audi and Toyota have jumped into the band wagon and now it seems like it will be a reality. Not just Google’s pipe dream. We will all have an awsome device that understands the road just like mobile phones were just a dream in the 70’s. Cant wait to vroom…vroom…..

I Yahooed it

Yahoo was once a fore runner of the internet with Yahoo search , Yahoo Mail, Yahoo directory.
image

It revolutionised the internet. We all now reap their past success.

Every one who goes online has an email address for free forever. All thanks to Yahoo.  They have aquired a large list of companies They survived the dot com bubble. It pioneered web commuter workers. Who wouldnt love to work at home and get a pay check still.

But now their webmail interface is the slowest. Their searches lag way behind Google in a shameful way. They dont headline any news. But that was before Microsoft made a merger deal with the conglomerate. Now we await a real change in strategy in its ways event though it had some issues.

With imput from Microsoft we expect more enovation from Yahoo to take up its rightfull place in IT as we have since time imemorial . They need to up their game or rather get back to the game. Tech companies are all about inovation and lack of which can leave a company without its head. The take over by Microsoft was inevitable. Now the question is what will Microsoft do with Yahoo they already own Bing.com a rival search engine. They made a search deal for sharing I guess only time will tell how this will change Yahoo .

We can finaly go back to Yahoo Search and Yahoo IT!

Free Windows 10 upgrade

“Why you should upgrate”

Windows 10 offers a rethinking of Microsoft’s strategy in both design of their flagship operating system and marketing it. Windows 8 and

Windows 8.1 were not a big hit as everyone was expecting. The loss of the start button has been its worst point . Also stabity and the apps and applications that switch back and forth doesn’t offer a good experience. Most people opted to stay with Windows 7.

In comes Windows 10. I started testing it since January . It was less stable then but I like it and it offers the best experience for any computer user. The start button was restored and the tiles were joined into one and offers a great way work with the operating system. It’s faster than Windows 8 . Its interface is less confusing and it has a polished interface. Its the future of computing.

The greatest thing is that the operating system is being offered as a free update. This offers you even more incentive to upgrade to Windows 10 . Its being offered as a free upgrade for all Windows 7 and Windows 8 machine. There should be an icon on your right side of the screen with a windows new icon . On clicking the icon you can reserve a Windows 10 upgrade. Go ahead and enjoy your new copy of Windows 10.

Nairobi City CCTV project

The city of Nairobi has finally woken up to the security question. We needed more surveillance to mitigate the terrorism issue. Ours was always a peaceful country. Since the 98 US embassy bombing we have seen an escalation in bombing. The Government follows our western counterparts by increasing the level of surveillance to curb this menace.

All around you can see cameras. made up of two bullet cameras and a PTZ camera to keep watch. The up-link is fiber providing a secure and reliable network. We at A Solution welcome this endeavor to monitor and weed out the terrorists and give us a more secure Capital.

Top Ten Reasons Your Computer Hangs

1. Running out of ram: This is the main reason for computers to hang as it uses the hard disk to swap as extra memory. Using older software as new software causes more ram to be needed. Adding ram easily remedies this.

2. Bloated registry: every application you install on your computer adds data to your registry file. As an application searches for configuration data in registry it can cause hanging.

3. Faulty hard disk : Its usualy an over looked reason but a hard disk with faulty internals like corrupt sectors can slow your machine. It slow read write operations hanging your machine. Only a format and reinstall can remedy this or a replacement in extreme cases can remedy this.

4. Software errors and bugs : These can also freeze your computer. A reinstall or alternate application can remedy this issue.

5. Slow internet: This is only specific to Web Appliications. Due to they way they are made some apps freeze on usage. Try a faster modem or provider dude !
